1) 95#  I was so off today. Had lots of fails, but kept going til I stuck it. Wasn't able to get into a complete squat on a lot of reps. The high pull was terrible and my grip was failing.
2) 125#  This was supposed to be 3 position and squat cleans, but I just didn't have it in me. I did a power clean and a hang clean, then the jerk. It wasn't pretty.
3) 95, 105, 100#  These went well. I probably should have gone heavier.

These were tough. My hips were very tight.

This wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Prowlers weren't too terrible. Got DU in 37/13, 50, 50. Perscribed weight was 155#, but that was my 1RM for the day, so I did 135#. Got first set of cleans unbroken. Second set I got 2 and dropped. Failed on three. Then got 3, 4, 5 as singles. Last set I did all 5 as singles.

This was so much tougher than I thought it was going to be. It took my 11:24 to finish. My first set of burpees took 31sec. Second set took 50sec. After that they were at a snails pace.

2) 135# I did this same set at 135# a week or so ago, and I failed on the 3rd rep of sets 4&5. I was able to get all reps successfully this time. Baby steps...

I haven't been able to eat much, and being on bed rest for a week will through anybody off.

Considering I haven't been running much I was pleased with our times. Final time was an average of the 2 times. I came in at 20:something and Grayson came in at 22:something. We flew through the row and were second off the rowers, but my legs suffered for rowing too hard. The first half of the first run was slow due to the cold and the tightness from rowing. Several people passed me, but the second half my legs loosened up and I was able to catch a few of the people that had passed. Second loop I had to pick up a 20# sandbag. It was a small bag. Too small to drape over my neck. I was constantly readjusting. Despite my legs dying, I didn't stop and didn't let anyone catch me. This was by far the toughest event for me.

Event #2 - HalloWOD
3 parts
3 min to find 1RM clean and jerk - 2nd place
2x400m run - 7th place

Part 1 - 160#
We could only lift 1 at a time, so 3 min wasn't much time at all. I started at 155# and got that pretty easily. I moved up to 165#. I got the clean, but failed on the jerk. I was able to keep it racked and tried again, but no go. I failed on the next clean attempt. I bumped down to 160# and got that pretty easily.

Part 2 - 2:21
I got caught off guard on this event. I had my back to the starting line, talking to my judge when they said go. I turned and was like "oh crap" and took off, but everyone had a big jump on me. Grayson really pulled through on his leg.

Part 3 - 3:10
This was actually pretty fun. Started off a little slow, but caught our stride on the 50m stretch back. Once we did we passed a few teams.

Event #3 - Pistol Grip - 13th place

This event really hurt us. I wasn't comfortable enough with my pistols to try them and Grayson's legs were too tired. We went with the air squats. All the teams that did pistols had a HUGE advantage. I think we did great, but we just didn't have a shot to catch the pistol teams.

This one was really fun. We had our strategy down pat. I did 20 Sh2OH unbroken, Grayson did 20 kb, we split the plate jumps. We split the next shoulder to OH and kb into 15/15 and the plate jumps into 10/20.


Considering all the running and the cold I was very proud of how we did. Taking 2nd place in the Clean and Jerk really boosted out spirits. Minus a few hiccups and the workouts constantly being changed it was a really fun event.

This went awful. My calves, hamstrings, quads, back and forearms all tightened up on the first round. Breathing got out of control quickly. The 75# got heavy even quicker.

I waited about an hour and decided I needed to know how the actual workout was going to feel and how I needed to break it up.

I did 15 power cleans and paused. I did 6 more and decided I didn't want to do the workout. About 30 seconds later I changed my mind and started back up. I had to break the front squats up into 5's. I barely got that. I also had to break the push presses into 5's. I was hoping to get these in 10's, but that wasn't happening. Kept with the sets of 5's into the snatches. These were very tough. Was able to get the OHS unbroken. This is not going to be pretty.

Box jumps overs weren't too bad. Jumped up, stepped off, turned around and back up. Kept it at a very steady pace. I broke the KB up into 20/10/10 which I shouldn't have done. I should have held on past 20. Maybe 25/15 or 30/10. The row hurt. It was tough on my breathing and my quads. My pace varied from 2:05-2:15. I tried to keep it under 2:10, but had trouble with that. I feel ok with my time. Chris and Grayson went with me. Chris finished about a minute before me and Grayson by 30sec. This workout wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but its going to be a completely different story when its the 4th workout of the day.

Part 2:

Got the DU in 76/24 which I was pretty happy with.
I dropped the deadlifts from the top the whole way through. I don't think I lost too much time doing this. As soon as I dropped it I was back down picking it up again. I didn't want my back tightening up. We'll see how it goes Tuesday with the TnG and then I'll decide what I want to do on Saturday. The burpees were way too slow. I'm seriously going to have to suck it up and make myself go faster. I'm curious what the standard is going to be for these.

Hang cleans felt great. Speed between reps is a little slower than I'd like, but its difficult for me to get the bar back down from the rack position under control.
I added the sandbag because I wanted to get used to running with weight on my shoulders. It is seriously going to suck having to do that in sand.

That minute flies by! I got 5 and dropped it. I probably took a few too many seconds resting. I got 5 more reps. I had 10sec left when I dropped it the second time. I quickly picked it back up and got one more rep. The clean itself isn't hard, but transitioning back down to the hang is tough for me.

I ended up doing a lot better than I thought I would. I hung in there with 3 regional competitors and was just 1 point away from making it to the podium. Not too shabby.

Event #1
5 min to find Clean & Jerk max - 165# (4th place)
I think I had adrenaline coming out of my ears. Started at 145#, then bumped up to 155#. 155 was my current PR. I got this pretty easily and felt great. Went up to 160 and got that pretty easily, too. Loaded up 165. I got the clean, but didn't drop under enough to stick the jerk. Took a few deep breaths and  tried again. Nailed it! I was so pumped! I tried 170 twice, but it was a no go. I would have been happy with 155, but 165 was what I was shooting for, so I'm really happy with this.










Event #2
21-18-15-12 GHD/Pullup - 6:40 (4th place)
This didn't go great, but I knew going in the pullups were going to be a challenge. All the GHDs went fine. Got my first set of 21 pullups unbroken. The second set of pullups I think I got 10-4-4. I don't remember what I did on the next 2 sets, but they were more broken up that I wanted. I am proud of myself for staying calm and sticking with it. I never let my breathing get out of control. This time was 4 seconds faster than the last time which isn't a lot, but better is better.

Event #3
200m shuttle run, 15 thruster 65#, 25 box jump, 15 thruster, 200m shuttle run - 4:06 (5th place)
This one went so much better than I was expecting. I took the first shuttle run at a pace I felt comfortable with. I may should have gone a little faster. First set of thrusters felt decent. Just about everybody in my heat got to the box before I did, but I know that my thrusters are slow. My box jumps went really smoothly. All under control and unbroken. I got back to my bar before a few people. Second set of thrusters were tough, but I got them unbroken and took only a short pause between a few reps with the bar racked. As I set out for my run I spotted Sarabeth not too far ahead of me and was determined to catch her. My legs were dying but I was pushing through it. The last 50m I went into an all out sprint and caught her in a photo finish at the line. Edged her out by1 second. I knocked almost 40 second off of my previous time. My breathing was a lot better on this that my last attempt. The first time I did it I was sucking wind big time. Grayson kept yelling at me to slow down my breathing. This time my breathing was completely under control until the last sprint at the end.

Event #4
50 burpees, 30 kb 35#, 400m run, 50 goblet lunges, 400m run, 30 kb, 50 burpees - 15:15 (5th place)
I've now done this workout twice and will never do it again. First set of burpees and kb didn't feel too bad. By the time my heat went there were divots in the ground from the burpees. Every time my chest hit, a cloud of dust came up. I was breathing in dirt and getting it all in my eyes.  Legs were a little tired on the first run. The lunges were awful. I took a short break after 25 reps. The second run hurt. My legs were dead. Second set of kb went fine. Last set of burpees were very tough. Janice Marie was next to me. We were going rep for rep on the burpees until we got to about 35 and I died. I wish I could have held out. If I could have held on and beaten her I would have tied overall for 3rd. I just had nothing left in the tank. My breathing wasn't too bad, but my muscles were just exhausted. I did shave around 30 seconds off my last time.

I have another competition in 2 weeks. There are over 200 individuals signed up. Hopefully it will go as well as this one did.

My goal for the competition this weekend has changed. I am now just trying not to come in dead last. I'm very disappointed in this time. I was very dizzy coming off the GHD. Granted I woke up yesterday with an awful head cold and I'm pumped full of cold medicine. I got the first set of pull-ups unbroken. The second set I had to break up into 10-4-4. I really wanted that set unbroken. Surprisingly my abs played a big factor in my pull-ups. By the set of 15 my grip was gone. Broke that into 8-4-4. The last set of pull-ups was just a mess. I'm not sure what the reps were. I got all the GHD unbroken, but it was hard to know when to breathe.

This was terrible for me. I was a little defeated before I started. I knew how much it sucked doing it one time, so the thought of having to do it 3 times was not at all appealing. My quads tightened up during the first set of thrusters even though I stretched extra between the strength and this. I think I completely gave up mentally during the first set of box jumps. Getting back to the thrusters my quads were on fire and my grip felt awful. The next 2 sets were a big ole' mess. I got upset with myself which made my breathing go out the window. I was close to hyperventilating at one point. I haven't felt this defeated in a while. What little confidence I had about next weekend has gone out the window. I have video of it, but I'm too embarrassed to post it.

A.135, 140, 145, 150#  These felt a little off today. I was off balance of my cleans and my jerks didn't feel as solid as they normally do. No fails, but they weren't pretty.
B1. These seemed tougher than last week. I got them all unbroken, but my grip was going early.
B2. I kept sliding off the pad which was causing me to have to use bad form.  I had to break up the last 2 sets to re-adjust. I really have to reach to hit the ground which I think is what is making me slide. At one point my shoe almost came off I was so stretched out.
C. My hamstrings are crazy tight from yesterday and my back wasn't feeling great after the GHDs so I didn't do the back extensions.

My breathing got out of control because I got upset that I was doing so poorly.

I was a dummy and miscounted my weights. I thought I had done 130, 140, 145. I was pumped that 145 felt  so good. Oops! I didn't realize it til I had finished everything and I was unloading my bar. When I realized what I'd done, I loaded up 145 and did that. It was tough after everything else.

A few of us decided to test out some of the workouts from the upcoming competition. I always like to do them before hand to know what I'm getting into.

I don't think I was warmed up enough before I did this one. My quads got crazy tight.
Took the first run at a good steady pace. Fast, but not too fast. First set of thrusters went ok. Box jumps weren't great. Legs were very tight. Took me a second to shake my legs out before the first jump. I got 19 unbroken starting from the top and rebounding at the bottom. Lost my rhythm on 19. Got the next 6 unbroken. 2nd set of thrusters were rough. I got them unbroken, but there were some long pauses with it in the rack position. Quads were on fire! First shuttle run I couldn't get a good stride because of my leg tightness. The second one they had loosened up a bit and I was able to really stretch out my stride and sprint in. I feel ok about this time, but know I'm going to have to do a lot better day of.

Took burpees at a nice steady pace, stepping down and up. They weren't too bad.  KB went fine. The run was a little slower than I'd like. The lunges were tough. I had to set the kb down at 25. Second set of 25 were slow. Run went ok, but again slower than I'd like. Second set of kb went fine. Last set of burpees were tough, more mentally than physically. I got them unbroken, stepping up and down, but they were slow. I felt ok about this time, but again, I know I have to do better come competition day,

This was an arm destroyer! Got first set of pull-ups unbroken. Broke snatches into 10/10. Its been a while since I've done full KB swings with 53#.  I would have gotten them unbroken, but on rep 15 I flipped it over my head. Ring dips were awful. It may have something to do with the 60 ring dips I did yesterday. This is what made my time so bad. Box jumps went well with a rebound. Pushpress unbroken. By the time I got to wall balls my arms were smoked. It was hard to catch it on the way down. I think I dropped it twice. Pushups were surprisingly very difficult. Had to break up into 2s and 3s. Second set of pull-ups was 5/5/5/5. Snatches 10/5/5. KB 10/10. Ring dips were pretty much singles. Box jumps went well. Push press was unbroken. Wall balls and pushups were about the same. All the runs were at a nice steady pace. It was time to shake out my arms.

The first set was very wobbly. I couldn't seem to get my balance. The second and third set I go my balance under control. These were pretty tough, though.

A. 85, 95, 105#  These felt pretty good. Felt so good I decided to try to hit a PR. Loaded up 120#. It took me 4 tries and I had to press out a little but I got it up there. Woo!
B. 135# x3  These were tough. I had one fail, but it wasn't due to the weight. Mid pull I got really dizzy and dropped the bar for fear of falling. (I had a few too many diet cokes today)
C. 145# x3  These were really tough. Form got a little sloppy, but I got them all.
D1. I warmed up with the 35# bar and decided to stick with that. These were nagging my back.
D2. I was not able to do these. I could barely get down to parallel and once I was down there I couldn't get back up. Is there a way to scale these?

This all went really well. Snatches felt good. Stayed steady on the pushups. Even the deadlifts felt good today. It may have been because I slept with a prescription strength patch for back pain on last night, but whatever the reason it was nice. I did the first set of HSPU kipping, then decided to work on strict. I did the rest of the sets strict to an abmat. Great workout to start the morning.

This was...pure...TORTURE. This took me over 2 1/2 hours. I don't know if it was the hill or the heat or something else, but the sleds were just awful. I think I wore all the tred off my shoes. I couldn't get any traction. By the end I was stopping short of the 100m mark.
MU got difficult around round 6.

These felt very strange. I'm not sure I was doing them right.

I kept ending up forward on these. I don't think the weight was too heavy I just think my form was off. I failed once on 125 and a few times on 135 due to form errors.
B2. Got all these unbroken. Felt decent.
C. These were relatively easy.

I tried to kip the ring dips. I have to kick about 3 times to lock out. At this point its easier to go strict. I stepped down on the box jumps which slowed me down a good bit. I've got a nagging pain in my foot from some box jumps last week. Rows were fine.

It was either 8 or 9 rounds. I lost count. Kipped HSPU and they were fine. The kb swings made my back get crazy tight. It's been tight since Sunday. Got all DU unbroken minus one set.

Pushups were fine. Back ext hurt. Runs were sloooooow. I don't know if it was the heat or me just sucking, but I was dragging on this last set.

Notes:
A. 75, 85, 95#  These felt pretty good. Tempo wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I really had to concentrate on holding my balance at the bottom.
B1. 105, 110, 115#  I wasn't sure how heavy to go on these. Really had to concentrate on keeping my chest up on the last few reps. I probably could have done a little more weight.
B2. Got all of these unbroken.
C1. 65, 75, 85#  These were harder than I thought they were going to be, but they went well. Tough, but good.
C2. I was able to get all 5 without dropping off the bar on all 3 sets. I'm really trying to string these together better. I can get 2 with a continuous flow, but by 3 I have to stop myself from swinging and reset.
D. Ran out of time this morning. Will do these this afternoon.

Some workouts are just too tempting to pass up. I had every intention of just coaching the classes, but after watching everybody do this workout I had to try it out myself.
I'm a little disappointed in my time. 100 DU took me longer than it should have. Tripped up way too much. Had to break the pullups into 10/5/5/5. I wanted to string more together, but my forearms weren't feeling great. 75 DU were ok, still tripped up a few times. Box jumps were slow! I was having to step down between reps. 50 DU went better. I think I only tripped up once. Got the situps unbroken. Got 25 DU unbroken. Then the movement I was dreading the most...100 air squats. I started out doing sets of 10 and quickly went down to sets of 5. My quads were on fire! Despite being slow and painful I finished them.

Wasn't feeling great coming in today. I think I was just dreading having to do Diane. Even from the warmup they felt a little off. Took 2 attempts to get 135 and 140#

Shoot me now. My back is DESTROYED. Got the set of 21 as TnG doing 11/10. Flew throughout the HSPU unbroken. Did 2 TnG and my back said no go. Had to do the rest as singles dropping from the top. My back was crazy tight and crazy hurting. Went pretty quickly through the 15 HSPU. Went back for the last 9 deadlifts and did singles dropping from the top. With tears on my face and screaming up the last 3 reps I finished the deadlifts. Last HSPU weren't a problem. I was very happy with my HSPU. My deadlifts are embarassing. This was 4 seconds slower than the last time I did it, but I'm just happy with finishing.

B2. 8/4/4, 10/6, 10/6   I used a false grip on these hoping it would help help with MU practice.
C. 22, 20, 18   I'm happy with these numbers, but wish I could have done more. My forearms were on fire!

I really want to do the swim, but every time I've tried to go to the pool its full of kids and that pool isn't big enough to workout with kids playing.
I pulled the rower outside to be out of the way of class. The sun beating down on me made a BIG difference. With the competition in September being on the beach I really need to try and do some workouts outside.

SO PUMPED!!! My previous PR was 3:03. I have done it a few times since and not come close to that time. I wanted to go unbroken as long as I could. I got 15 unbroken and dropped it. I got 3 more, then had to go to singles. I tried not to waste time between drops. Surprisingly the jerks were the hardest part. Very good way to end the week!  :)
